A common love of our country

Dear Friend,

Independence Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It’s a time to celebrate our country’s founding—the birth of a nation. I’m excited to be celebrating at home in Spokane with my husband, Brian, and our three beautiful kids, Cole, Grace, and Brynn. On this special day—in addition to the fireworks, community events, and quality family time—I’m especially grateful to be an American.

We stand on the shoulders of giants. The signers of the Declaration of Independence and the generations that followed have passed onto us a significant task: to cherish, embrace, and protect this great experiment in self-government. That means each of us doing our part to come together around common decency, common values, and a common love of our country.

As we enjoy this important day in beautiful Eastern Washington, let’s remember what a blessing it is to live in the greatest country in the world, founded on the eternal principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Today as we gather with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate the great promise of America, we pledge to carry the torch of the generations before us and ensure that this promise lives on.

Happy Independence Day!

Warmly,
Cathy McMorris Rodgers
