McMorris Rodgers Votes to Uphold 2nd Amendment Rights
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) voted to uphold the 2nd Amendment rights of people in Eastern Washington and all across the country by voting no on H.R. 8.
“I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment,” said Cathy. “While this bill claims to be a solution to mass violence, it, in fact, solves nothing. I support background checks and was proud last year to fix our federal background check system so we can keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have access. Unfortunately, this legislation focuses on checking boxes and making it harder for law-abiding citizens to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights, rather than addressing the root causes of mass violence or taking any further steps to keep schools safe.”
NOTE: Last year, Cathy was the only Member of the House of Representatives to be honored by Sandy Hook Promise as for her work to keep schools safe and reduce gun violence.
Cathy also has a proven track record of supporting efforts to keep schools safe and keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have access, including:
- Getting the STOP School Violence Act signed into law last year to provide resources to local schools to help with school safety initiatives, mental health resources, and local law enforcement support.
- Getting the Fix NICS Act signed into law last year to ensure federal and state authorities comply with existing law and report criminal history records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
- Supporting the ban of bump stocks.
