H.R. 312 Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act NO This bill authorizes two reservations for the tribe including an off-reservation casino 50 miles away from the tribe’s historic reservation, overturns decisions by the Trump Administration and a federal judge, and contradicts a Supreme Court ruling and current federal law.

H.R. 987 MORE Health Education Act NO While H.R. 987 was originally a bipartisan bill dealing with prescription drug pricing, partisan language was inserted for political purposes. The majority put a political pothole in the way of bipartisan drug pricing reform.

H.R. 5 Equality Act NO Discrimination based on race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, and religious beliefs is wrong, and our goal should always be that no American is discriminated against. While well intentioned, the Equality Act did not do enough to protect religious liberty. In fact, in some cases, the bill undermined the ability of religious organizations to provide vital services in our community without violating their strongly held religious beliefs. LGBTQ rights and religious freedom shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We should be able to advance both without undermining one or the other. I did not support H.R. 5 because it failed to meet that goal.

SUSPENSION BILLS

**A suspension bill is a bill passed by the House through suspending the rules to move quickly, circumventing the House Rules Committee. Suspension bills are typically less controversial pieces of legislation, and as the rules are being suspended, they require a higher threshold, two-thirds of those voting in the House, to pass. Additionally, these bills are often passed by a voice vote, without a formal roll call vote.
