I recently heard from someone in Eastern Washington who told me he first thought his $100 increase in this month’s paycheck was a glitch. It sure wasn’t a glitch. It was because tax reform is delivering on the promises we made.
Did you know the #TaxCutsandJobsAct expands the Child Tax Credit from $1,000 to $2,000 for single filers and married couples to help parents with the cost of raising children? That’s just one way #taxreform put families first.
Bringing more doctors to Eastern Washington is one of my top priorities. My bill to extend the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program will help create a new generation of doctors trained right here in our community. Proud to see this signed into law last week.
Last week, as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act, we provided an additional $6 billion in funds to help fight the opioid epidemic in Eastern Washington and across the country. I’m proud to continue supporting funding and programs to provide resources to those battling opioid addiction.
Proud to see two of my bills signed into law last week to ensure the Spokane Teaching Health Clinic can continue to serve our community and to provide access to speech-generating devices for those with ALS and other diseases. Read more here:
So great to see PRIDE Prep and other charter schools in our area expanding and offering educational choice to students in Eastern Washington. Learn more about what our great charter schools have to offer here:
Also included in the Bipartisan Budget Act passed yesterday morning was an effort I’ve been working on to convene a bipartisan, bicameral committee to look at our budget process and provide solutions. It’s clear to me that our budget process is broken. When you look at how we lurch from one funding crisis to the next, the gridlock doesn’t allow
This morning, President Trump signed our budget deal into law. While it’s not perfect, it includes two of my bills, the Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act and my legislation to extend the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program which helps bring residencies to our community through the Spokane Teaching Health Clinic. The legislation
Thanks for your leadership, Team Gleason. It wouldn’t have been possible without your advocacy for those with ALS and other degenerative diseases. I was proud to be a partner in this effort so we can provide these critical devices to those who need them -- so they can share their stories, order coffee, tell jokes, ask for help, or say “I love you.”
The Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act gives a voice to the voiceless. It will permanently fix Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) policy that limits access to speech-generating devices for those with ALS and other degenerative diseases. With the help of Team Gleason, we are working to get this bill signed into law this week.
Last fall, in a piece for The Inlander in response to sexual harassment and misconduct in Congress, I said, “The Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, the law responsible for governing conduct in the congressional workplace, should be reevaluated and updated… I believe it’s my job to put a stop to these issues — to lead in Congress on behalf
Last night, the House passed a continuing resolution to fund the government which included two of my bills! One extends the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program for two years and doubles current funding levels. The second is the Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act which permanently fixes the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
We need to strengthen protections for those on the Social Security representative payee program, which is why I supported legislation in the House yesterday to do just that. When children and those with disabilities rely on others to administer their social security, the Social Security Administration must make sure those people are acting responsibly
This bill is not about the merits of calorie counts. This bill does not remove the requirement for calorie counts on menus and doesn’t make it more difficult for customers to receive nutritional information. This bill, at its very core, is about flexibility. Flexibility for businesses to meet the requirements of the rule and present this calorie information
