The Congresswoman had another busy week packed with meetings and hearing from constituents, just like when she’s home in Eastern Washington. She attended President Trump’s Joint Address, weighed in on the new WOTUS executive action by the President, joined a delegation letter asking for an investigation into the threats against the Jewish community, and voted for the passage of the Regulatory Integrity Act to help ensure that your hard earned tax dollars aren’t being used by the government to lobby for its own interests.

On Tuesday, President Donald J. Trump delivered his Joint Address to Congress (catch our recap here). The Congresswoman was honored to be there as he laid out his positive, optimistic vision for our country. She was reminded that President Trump is a man of action. He’s about putting people first, and she is excited about this time in our nation’s history. You can see her full statement here.

On Friday, the Congresswoman went LIVE on Facebook to take questions and hear directly from the people of Eastern Washington. You can see it here:

The Congresswoman also hosted a number of people from Eastern Washington, including Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, local American Legion Representatives, and more!

Before all that, Rep. McMorris Rodgers was home in Eastern Washington, meeting with community leaders and advocates and attending community events. In Walla Walla she met with leaders from the Dayton General Hospital to discuss how we can best care for our veterans in the 21st Century.

Following the meeting, the Congresswoman met with Brian and Jennifer Fullen and Brian Richard and presented them with a Congressional Record (which you can read here) to honor their bravery for putting their lives on the line when fire broke out in their neighboring apartment. Later, she visited Animal Clinic East in Walla Walla and joined the Fazzari family in dedicating a flagpole in honor of their son, Army 1st Lieutenant Mathew Fazzari, who in 2012 gave his life in Afghanistan while serving our country. The Congresswoman gave remarks and presented the Fazzari family with a flag flown over the United States Capitol Building in honor of Mat’s courageous service to our country.

She also joined members of the community at the grand opening of the Walla Walla Veterans Home. The Congresswoman congratulated those involved and reaffirmed her commitment to our veterans at the ceremony, which can be viewed here, and joined in celebrating the opening of this state-of-the-art veterans home.

The Congresswoman also held a number of meetings in Spokane, where she met with Global Neighborhood and World Relief. These organizations are doing great things in our community to resettle refugees and advocate on their behalf. America has a long history of providing safe haven for many of the world’s most vulnerable refugees and the Congresswoman was happy to hear about the great work these groups are doing.

She then joined Freda Gandy for a tour of the MLK Family Outreach Center to see the great services they are providing to our community and to learn what she can do to support them.

She also visited the Spokane HOPE School, which provides resources and technology to help children with hearing loss. She then had the honor of joining Spokane Police Officer Tim Schwering, who in January risked his life to pull a woman out of her burning car. Rep. McMorris Rodgers visited with Officer Schwering and other officers and presented him with a Congressional Record honoring his courage and life-saving actions.

Rep. McMorris Rodgers joined Spokane NAACP President Phil Tyler and other members of the Spokane community in hosting a second “Peaceful Communities Roundtable.” The Congresswoman is committed to continuing these courageous conversations so we can work together, around shared goals, to create the community we want to see.

As the Congresswoman often says, she is humbled to serve the people of Eastern Washington as we witness history together. This week’s meetings and conversations were another reminder of the incredible opportunity in front of our community and our country, and we look forward to what the future has in store.
