An Update for You

Several more “Conversation with Cathy” town halls and listening sessions are in the books, so thought I’d take some time to share with you what I’m hearing.

Between the e-mails, letters, and meetings with so many of you across our district, I just want to let you know that I understand your frustrations and anxiety.

I talk more about it in this video.

I led the effort in the House for our plan, “A Better Way to do the People’s Business.” Because when you lose your voice in our representative democracy, the government just starts taking over and meddling in our lives.

This is the root of the problem in Washington, DC.

For example, you are losing the power to ensure every penny of taxpayer money and every decision by federal agencies are subject to your scrutiny.

That’s why I introduced the USA Act, a smarter solution that works to restore the “power of the purse” to the American people. The USA Act eliminates what I call  “zombie” government programs — any spending on government programs that hasn’t been reauthorized by the people’s representatives.

These programs are living beyond their intended lifespan because they haven’t been reauthorized by the People’s House in years (or even decades). My USA Act helps give you the power to review, rethink, and possibly eliminate government programs – and hold bureaucrats accountable.

But that’s not all.  At the end of the day, policy means nothing unless people are at the core. That’s why I’m fighting for the mom like me, who’s just trying to get the government out of her child’s way, to the store owner who wants common sense to guide menu labeling. And while it’s a long fight, I’m not letting up on this because restoring a representative government of the people, by the people, and for the people is the foundation of what makes America so special.

Please keep sharing your stories and thoughts with me — it makes all the difference

Warmly,

Cathy
