As the country moves on from the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more schools and jobs are moving online. But for the millions of American households without a computer, this transition could lead to fewer opportunities in an already struggling economy.

The good news is that the House of Representatives took action this week to close this opportunity gap by passing the Computers for Veterans and Students Act. This legislation will allow certified, nonprofit companies to acquire extra computers from the federal government, refurbish them, and give them to veterans, students, low-income families, and others in underserved communities. It also requires the refurbishing companies to provide training programs on how to use the technology, so our veterans and the next generation are set up for success!

I was proud to be a part of this effort to help veterans and students access the tools they need to achieve the American Dream, and I hope the Senate will follow our lead and send this bill to the president’s desk to be signed into law soon.
