Small businesses are the backbone of our nation’s economy. For so many in Eastern Washington, small businesses embody the spirit of the American Dream, and for good reason. The entrepreneurial spirit of small business owners is what drives innovation and helps us win the future.

That’s why it’s so important for Congress to invest in Main Street USA and help open new doors of opportunity. This week, I was proud to help pass two bills to do just that, including:

• The Investing in Main Street Act to encourage banks to provide additional financial support to small businesses through larger investments; and
• The Small Business Advanced Cybersecurity Enhancements Act to create proactive partnerships between small businesses and the federal government to help protect small businesses from criminal cyber-attacks.

When our small businesses thrive, so does Eastern Washington, which is why I will continue working hard to make sure business owners across our community have every resource they need to be successful.
