Crop Insurance in the Bipartisan Budget Act
Yesterday I voted for the Bipartisan Budget Act. In a bipartisan deal you never get everything you want, and this deal is not perfect.
In particular, it includes changes to the crop insurance program. Before I decided to support this deal, I made certain negotiators agreed to completely reverse this provision in upcoming legislation, most likely in December.
This is important legislation, especially as it reverses cuts and prioritizes again important defense and military spending. It protects our economy and reduces our deficit, strengthens our national security, and makes long-term reforms to the nation’s entitlement programs.
I want to be very clear — representing Eastern Washington farmers is a responsibility I take very seriously, and I will actively work to ensure this is fully corrected.
Thank you to so many of you who have shared your concerns with me. I will continue to monitor this situation closely.
