Keeping Communities Safe

President Biden’s open border policies have led to a surge in unaccompanied children coming to America. What’s worse is these kids are being abandoned and exploited. Here are just a few of the gut-wrenching examples: 13 and 14-year-olds are working 12-hour shifts on farms and factories. Children dropping out of school or never signing up because they owe a debt to the smuggler that trafficked them. Children running away from sponsors because they were being sold for sex.

How was this allowed to happen? How is it possible that under Secretary Becerra’s failed leadership, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has lost track of tens of thousands of these children after hastily releasing them from its custody?

This is atrocious and unacceptable. That’s why I led a hearing today to hold the administration accountable and make sure this tragic exploitation never happens again. You can watch my opening remarks here:

The American people deserve to know how HHS could have possibly ignored the warning signs and continued to put more children in danger of exploitation. I can assure you of one thing: Our committee will do everything we can to get to the bottom of it.
