Honoring the Fallen
In August, our nation watched in horror as President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan unfolded before our eyes. Because of his failed leadership, thirteen brave men and women gave their last full measure of devotion in an effort to save American lives and evacuate refugees to safety.
These soldiers were heroes made of the moral fabric America is known for, and their sacrifice must never be forgotten. That’s why I immediately cosponsored a resolution to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to honor the lives of those who were killed in action on that tragic day.
This week, the House of Representatives came together to pass this important resolution with overwhelming bipartisan support, and I am confident it will get swift consideration in the Senate. While we will never be able to repay the debt we owe these fallen heroes, my hope is that this bill will help preserve their legacy and help their families heal as we continue to pray for those who knew and loved them.
