It’s Time to Fix the Backlog of Veterans’ Record Requests

Jan 25, 2022
Veterans

You might remember that in December 2020 I fought to secure $15 million in emergency funding to solve the growing backlog of requests for veteran personnel records. It’s now been over a year, and more than half a million veterans are still waiting to receive their documentation required to access the benefits they earned serving our country.

I’ve heard from countless veterans in Eastern Washington about this, and I share their frustration. Despite Congress taking action to address this growing crisis, President Biden refuses to act. That’s why I just sent another letter – my fourth since this problem started – demanding the president take action to immediately eliminate the records request backlog.

The bottom line is simple: these delays are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated a day longer. Veterans in Eastern Washington deserve better than this, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure they get it!
