March for Life 2011
Dear Friend,
This week, champions for life from all over America came to Washington, D.C. to express their commitment to the pro-life cause. I was proud to join these "March for Life" activities by speaking at two events – a meeting of the "Concerned Women for America" in which I talked about our efforts in Congress to reinstate the ban on taxpayer funding of abortions which was lifted as part of last year's health care bill – and a meeting of KIDS ("Keeping Infants with Down Syndrome") – a wonderful organization that works to protect unborn children who have Trisomy 21 and increase awareness about what blessings these children are.
At the KIDS meeting, I highlighted the fact that 80-90% of pregnant women who learn their unborn child has Trisomy 21 choose to abort that child. As the mom of a child with special needs, I find this statistic to be incredibly disheartening because I've always believed – even before my son, Cole, was born – that life begins at conception and that all children are gifts from God. Being Cole's mom, that conviction has only grown. That's why we need to support those moms and dads who find themselves in the midst of an unexpected pregnancy. They might be scared and confused, but if we give them love and encouragement and support, we can show them a better way – a way that protects life.
Thank you so much for your interest in this issue, and for your commitment to the pro-life cause.
Cathy
