McMorris Rodgers Announces $3.9 Million in FCC Support for Rural Broadband Deployment in Stevens County
SPOKANE, WA (August 16, 2019) — Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) announced an investment of $3.9 million from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to expand broadband to nearly 3,000 underserved homes and businesses in Stevens County.
“Broadband is basic infrastructure in today’s 21st Century economy, and if rural Eastern Washington is going to remain competitive, we have to have access to high speed internet,” said Cathy. “I will continue leading on this issue to ensure our communities are connected. Thank you to Chairman Pai and the Trump administration for continuing to invest in rural America and lead in bridging the digital divide.”
NOTE: In June, Cathy introduced the Broadband Data Improvement Act to ensure broadband coverage maps have accurate information so the federal government can direct funding to the places that need it most. She also recently hosted a series of rural broadband meetings in Colville and Pomeroy to continue working on this issue for the people of Eastern Washington.
