McMorris Rodgers Cosponsors Legislation to End Annoying Robocalls
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 25, 2019) – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) issued the following statement after she cosponsored new bipartisan legislation, the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act (H.R. 3375), to end dangerous and annoying automated telephone calls.
“For some, robocalls are annoying, but for others, they can lead to theft of personal or financial information,” said Cathy. “Over the last few years, they’ve begun to impact nearly everyone here in Eastern Washington and across the county. By cracking down on bad robocalls and requiring wireless carriers to implement safeguards and services for their customers, it’s my hope we can end this dangerous annoyance once and for all.”
NOTE: Robocalls have become especially pervasive over the past several years. In fact, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received 232,000 public complaints of unwanted phone calls in 2018 alone, a 34% increase since 2015.
It’s estimated that thus far in 2019, 25 billion robocalls have been placed in the United States alone, which is roughly 76 calls per person affected.
