“America stood with Israel at the beginning and must continue to stand beside it today. I will continue to work tirelessly to make certain the United States is an unequivocal, staunch, bipartisan, and steadfast friend of Israel.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) issued the following statement today to mark Israel’s 67th Independence Day:

“Today Israel marks its 67th Independence Day, commemorating the signing of the Israeli declaration of Independence, and the end of the British mandate. The declaration states it ‘is the natural right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate, like all other nations, in their own sovereign State.’ The day after declaring independence, Israel was attacked by the combined forces of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. Israel’s young army triumphed and the dream of generations was fulfilled.

“America stood with Israel at the beginning and must continue to stand beside it today.  I will continue to work tirelessly to make certain the United States is an unequivocal, staunch, bipartisan, and steadfast friend of Israel. Happy Independence Day to our friends and allies in Israel!”
