McMorris Rodgers Helps Pass the REINS Act to Check Biden’s Reckless Spending

Washington, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) released the following statement after she helped pass the REINS Act in the House of Representatives yesterday.

“I made a promise to bring an end to President Biden and House Democrats’ reckless spending, which is why I helped pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act earlier this month. While this bill was the largest deficit reduction bill in American history, it was only the beginning,” said Rodgers. “Yesterday, we took the next step by passing the REINS Act to finally put a check on the president’s executive actions that are costing taxpayers millions of dollars and driving inflation through the roof. We still have a long way to go before we erase our nation’s historic debt, but holding the administration accountable for the economic crisis it created is a great place to start so we can get our country back on track.”

The REINS Act reasserts the legislative authority of Congress and prevents excessive overreach by the executive branch in the federal rulemaking process. Specifically, it requires every new “major rule” proposed by federal agencies to be approved by both the House and Senate before going into effect. A “major rule” is defined as:

  • Any federal rule or regulation that may result in: an annual effect on the economy of $100 million or more;
  • A major increase in costs or prices for consumers, individual industries, government industries, government agencies, or geographic regions;
  • Or significant adverse effects on competition, employment, investment, productivity, innovation, or the ability of U.S.-based enterprises to compete with foreign-based enterprises.

Pumping the Brakes on Biden’s EV Mandate

President Biden’s rush to green agenda is failing.  Just last week, nearly 4,000 auto dealers sent a letter to President Biden urging him to stop his EV mandates. They said demand isn’t there and EVs are just sitting on their lots. What’s worse is that the administration has allocated billions of dollars for EV charging […]
