WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 21, 2019) – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) today joined the Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Health at their hearing titled, “Protecting Patients from Surprise Medical Bills.” Cathy told the story of a woman from Washington state who received a $227,000 surprise bill. In case you missed it, you can watch Cathy’s opening remarks here:

“So, what’s the solution? There must be more transparency. Right now, it is too difficult to be an informed patient. If your care is out-of-network and you will be charged for it, you should know,” said Cathy.

She continued, “I’m grateful that President Trump is making this a priority to end surprise billing, and I agree that Congress should lead on a bipartisan solution…There shouldn’t be any People should be able to trust they know how much they are going to be billed– especially when they are in some of the most stressful situations of their lives.”
