McMorris Rodgers Presents Military Medals to Vietnam War Veteran from Kettle Falls
Colville, WA (June 2, 2021) – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers presented Kettle Falls veteran Army Specialist Johnny Pratt with the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and other distinguished military decorations. Specialist Pratt served in the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam War. While under siege, he volunteered to go outside of the established perimeter to take down a machine gun bunker. He faced heavy fire, yet continued the fight against the enemy, disregarding his personal safety. His gallant actions during his tour in Vietnam distinguished him as a true hero within the U.S. Army.
“Throughout our nation’s history, we have been threatened at home and abroad by unspeakable evils, and each time we have turned to courageous individuals like Army Specialist Johnny Pratt to protect the life and liberties we hold dear,” said Rodgers. “Johnny’s devotion to duty and country is unparalleled, and it was my honor to present him with the decorations he so rightfully deserved. I know I speak for our entire community when I say thank you, Johnny, for your tremendous service to our country.”
Additionally, Cathy presented Specialist Pratt with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, along with the following decorations for his service:
- National Defense Service Medal
- Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars
- Valorous Unit Award
- Combat Infantryman Badge
- Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with “60” device
- Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm device
