WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA05) issued the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015.

“As a pro-life leader and a pro-life mom, I acted today to protect the lives of the unborn.  I spoke for the majority of Americans – both Republicans and Democrats – who believe that no taxpayer dollars should fund elective abortion. And I acted to hold the federal government accountable to the law. We must stand up for the invaluable impact that every human life has on this world.  As the mom of a 7-year old son, Cole, who was born with Down syndrome, I believe wholeheartedly that every life is a gift, and every human life is a story.  A story that must be fiercely protected.  I will continue to advocate – as a both a mom and a legislator for Eastern Washington – for the lives of the unborn.”

This legislation will make the ‘Hyde amendment’ – language that ensures that no appropriated funds are used to pay for abortions – permanent, and it will remove funding for insurance plans that include abortion from the Affordable Care Act.
