WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 11, 2018) – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) released this statement following President Trump’s pardon of Dwight and Steven Hammond yesterday.

“Dwight and Steven Hammond were sentenced to a mandatory minimum jail term that was established for terrorists. Federal Judge Michael Hogan originally sentenced the farmers to three months and I, like many across the country, was shocked when the Hammonds were sentenced to a five-year sentence. That’s why I am pleased to see President Trump pardon the Hammonds so they can return to their families and ranches in Oregon. This is the right decision and is an important acknowledgment as to the way of life in Eastern Washington and rural communities.”
