McMorris Rodgers Statement on President Trump’s Proclamation to Restrict Entry of Foreign Workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announced extension of his proclamation from April 22, 2020, Suspension of Entry of Immigrants Who Present a Risk to the United States Labor Market During the Economic Recovery Following the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Outbreak

“Many Eastern Washington companies, which support thousands of jobs here in our community, also rely on high-skilled foreign labor,” said McMorris Rodgers. “Businesses in Eastern Washington are already struggling as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this order only further adds to those struggles. I encourage President Trump to reconsider the extension of this proclamation because of the impact it will have on the U.S. economy during this economic crisis. It’s clear our immigration system is broken and Congress needs to find the political will to fix it.”
