Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the Republican Leader of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce, released the following statement after Congressman Greg Walden, the Republican Leader of Energy and Commerce, announced his plans to retire from Congress:

“I’m grateful for Greg’s friendship and leadership. We’ve worked closely together over the years on the Energy and Commerce Committee, in Republican leadership, and in the Pacific Northwest. No matter the title before his name, Greg has led with a pioneering spirit because he’s always had a clear focus on big solutions for a stronger tomorrow in America. From historic legislation to combat the opioid crisis, to expanding rural broadband and 5G technology, building the 21st century economy, lowering prescription drug prices, and supporting innovation in energy and healthcare, Greg has kept the focus and mission of our committee on what matters the most—improving the lives of those we serve. I’ll miss working with him. I’m glad that he plans to run through the tape as Energy and Commerce continues our work on a forward-thinking agenda for America to compete globally and win worldwide. Greg, thank you for your service.”
