McMorris Rodgers Takes Action to Protect Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions
Washington, D.C. (February 5, 2021) – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) today introduced the Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act of 2021. This is Cathy’s first health care bill since being named lead Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over the issue.
“Every single individual in Eastern Washington deserves access to affordable health care coverage, including those with disabilities and other pre-existing conditions,” said Rodgers. “This is one of my top priorities, which is why I introduced legislation to ensure those with pre-existing conditions have guaranteed access to quality care they need. We must work together to expand health care options for Americans, not punish them for things out of their control. I’m confident that this bill will serve as a foundation we can build on to bring down costs, and help individuals keep control over their health care decisions.”
The Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act aims to achieve three important goals for patients:
- Guaranteed access to coverage
- Prohibiting pre-existing conditions benefit exclusions
- Banning a premium rating based on health status
This legislation also protects critical safeguards for patients with pre-existing conditions that would withstand any potential changes in law or decisions from the courts. Additionally, the bill would create a foundation to be built on to continue reforming healthcare for all Americans.
