WASHINGTON, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), lead Republican on the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce, released the following statement after portions of her Broadband Data Improvement Act (H.R. 3162) were signed into law as part of the Broadband DATA Act (S.1822). As millions of Americans, including those in rural areas, set up to work from home, efforts to improve broadband deployment are more important than ever.

“Everywhere I go in Eastern Washington, the number one concern I hear is about rural broadband, especially at a time like this when people rely on reliable internet at home during the coronavirus response. It is basic infrastructure in our 21st Century economy, but yet we still face challenges in getting federal broadband resources to the places that need them most,” said McMorris Rodgers. “The elements of my Broadband Data Improvement Act that are included in this bill will revamp the federal mapping process so that we have accurate data about where improvements are needed most and improve access in communities that I represent.”
