WASHINGTON, D.C.– In a House Republican press conference today, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) discussed the policies Republicans are advancing to enable Eastern Washingtonians and all Americans an opportunity for a better life.

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

“Allow me to start by wishing my son Cole a happy birthday today. We’ve all just returned from being home in our districts – from Ohio to California to North Carolina to Washington – and if there’s one thing Americans have in common right now, it’s their desire for a better life and more opportunities.  They want the opportunity to bring home better paychecks, to find new jobs, and to provide security for their families.  When I was home, I had the chance to visit one of my favorite local ‘mom and pop’ convenience stores, owned for many years by a husband and wife back in Eastern Washington.  And they’re struggling in this economy.  They’re concerned about their future because of all the uncertainty coming out of Washington right now. The worst part is: they’re not the only ones. Americans all across this country – no matter where they’re from or how old they are – are struggling to achieve a better life for themselves and their families.  This economy and these policies aren’t working and they aren’t fair.   And they’re hurting more people than they’re helping. So let’s come together – the White House and Congress, Republicans and Democrats – to help give people better paychecks, better jobs, and better lives.  Republicans have a long-term, pro-growth jobs plan to make that happen.  And we’ll keep fighting until we do.”
