McMorris Rodgers Statement on Passage of Health Care Bill in U.S. Senate
Budget-Busting $871 Billion Bill is Wrong Prescription for America
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), issued the following statement after Senate Democrats passed a 2,733-page government takeover of health care:
“I am very disappointed about the passage of this bill which cuts Medicare, raises premiums on working families, increases taxes on small businesses, and compromises the high quality of care and access that Americans have come to expect from our health care system.”
“Instead of enacting a costly government takeover of one-sixth of the U.S. economy, Congress should adopt a step-by-step, common-sense approach to health care reform. Together with my Republican colleagues, I have been and am currently advocating an alternative solution which focuses on lowering premiums for families and small businesses, promoting healthier lifestyles, and increasing access to affordable, high-quality care – all without adding to our crushing national debt.”
“The Majority in the U.S. House and Senate will now begin negotiations on a compromise bill to be signed into law.”
“As the process moves forward, I will continue to work to persuade my colleagues that this legislation is counterproductive, unacceptable and must be defeated. It’s still not too late to stop this bill, provided the Majority will listen to the American people as they’ve been elected to do.”
