RULE BILLS

A rule bill is a bill passed through a full House vote under a rule that has been voted and agreed upon by the Rules Committee. Rule bills require a simple majority of the House to pass (218 votes) through a recorded vote.

2/7/24

H.R. 485

Protecting Health Care for All Patients Act

Passed  | 211 – 208
My Vote  |  YES

I led the Protecting Health Care For All Patients Act (H.R. 485) through the House to ban federal health care bureaucracies like Medicaid and the VA from devaluing the lives of people living with disabilities. This bill prohibits the use of Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) and other similar discriminatory measures in all federal programs. QALYs devalue the lives of people with a disability or those with chronic illnesses to determine whether the treatment is cost-effective enough to be paid for by the federal government.

2/6/24

H. Res. 863

Impeaching Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, for high crimes and misdemeanors

Failed  | 214 – 216
My Vote YES

Secretary Mayorkas has a constitutional duty to enforce America’s immigration laws and support our national security. His efforts to undermine America’s immigration laws endanger the lives of Americans, overwhelm our resources, and prove damaging to our economy. This bill would have allowed for a Senate impeachment trial to remove Sec. Mayorkas from office.

SUSPENSION BILLS

A suspension bill is a bill passed by the House through suspending the rules to move quickly, circumventing the House Rules Committee. Suspension bills are typically less controversial pieces of legislation, and as the rules are being suspended, they require a higher threshold, two-thirds of those voting in the House, to pass. Additionally, these bills are often passed by a voice vote, without a formal roll call vote.

My Vote  |  YES

This bill directs the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to establish a task force to identify and address critical needs with respect to shark depredation. This legislation will help conserve our thriving marine life in WA and protect sharks from unsafe conditions and food sources.

2/5/24

H.R. 4385

My Vote  |  YES

This bill reauthorizes emergency drought relief programs at the Bureau of Reclamation to minimize drought damages and losses, and improve water availability for those in states like WA harmed by drought.

My Vote  |  YES

This bill updates and reauthorizes several conservation programs for wildlife species and their habitats, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program as well as programs that provide financial assistance to marine turtles. This bill would help preserve our wildlife for future generations to see.

This bill takes specified lands in Iowa into trust for the benefit of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. The land is made part of the tribe’s reservation.
