RECAP: McMorris Rodgers Meets with Local Health Care Leaders, Visits WSU Nursing Simulation

Spokane, Wash. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) today visited Washington State University’s nursing simulation in Spokane. She also met with health care leaders at both Providence Health and the Fred Hutch Cancer Center. Details and photos from these public events, as well as a preview of tomorrow’s schedule, are below.

Meeting with Providence Leadership

Cathy began her day at Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane to meet with Providence Divisional Chief Executive Joel Gilbertson and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center Chief Executive Susan Stacey. They had an informative discussion about the challenges health care providers are facing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including barriers to staffing and recruiting new talent.  

Visiting WSU’s Nursing Simulation

Cathy then stopped by Washington State University’s Spokane campus to get a firsthand look at their Center for Experiential Learning. The Center is where WSU medical students are able to practice various nursing simulations, which provide an important opportunity to experience hands-on learning.

Meeting with Fred Hutch Cancer Center Leadership

Finally, Cathy met with a group of leaders from Fred Hutch Cancer Center, including President and Director Thomas J. Lynch Jr. M.D., to get an update about their integration with the former Seattle Cancer Center Alliance and what expanding their treatment services across the state means for patients in Eastern Washington.
