Remembering Their Courage & Sacrifice
Over the course of two decades, more than 9 million Americans selflessly served halfway around the world in the jungles of Vietnam. And they did it for one reason – freedom. For days and weeks on end, they fought in muddy trenches, battling the enemy in some of the most unimaginable conditions.
Many never made it back home to see their loved ones again. Others returned only to be shunned by those who opposed our engagement in Southeast Asia. They were ridiculed, neglected, and looked down upon because they did what others wouldn’t – courageously defend our country.
Today, on National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we aspire to right the wrongs of our past by honoring those who valiantly fought this war and paying them the long-overdue respect they earned. It’s because of them that America stands tall as the strongest, safest, and freest nation on this earth.
To all the men and women in Eastern Washington who answered the call to defend us in our darkest hours, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Our community will never forget your sacrifice, and we will be forever grateful for your service.
