State of the Union Thoughts
Last night, President Obama delivered his much-anticipated State of the Union address. And what was his message? Basically, “Stay the course.” At a time when 70% of Americans are dissatisfied with the direction of our country, that is not a message most people want to hear. The voters of Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts have made their voices heard: We want change. Real change. And that means a stop to wasteful government spending, deficits, and bailouts. To renew America, we need to unleash the power of free minds and free markets, not stifle innovation and opportunity with more taxes, regulation, and debt. I was hoping President Obama would use his speech to join Republicans in a new spirit of cooperation. That did not happen. But the President will meet with me and other House Republicans tomorrow. Perhaps he’ll try a different approach then. So stay tuned.
