Terminating Oracle Cerner’s Broken EHR

The Oracle Cerner electronic health record (EHR) system has been a complete failure. Patients have been harmed. Medical center employees and providers are suffering from burnout and low morale. Veterans have lost confidence that they can receive the care they need.

After the VA announced an indefinite pause on the program last week, I have decided it’s time to pull the plug completely. It’s clear that there is no coming back from the mess the Department of Veterans Affairs has made with this deeply broken system. No amount of money or opportunities for improvement will change that reality.

That’s why I just called for termination of Oracle Cerner EHR and am putting my support behind a bill to do it. We need to go back to a system that works immediately and deliver on our promise to give veterans in Eastern Washington the best care our country has to offer.

This is a commitment I intend to keep.
