The STEP Improvement Act
Small businesses are the engine that drives our economy in Eastern Washington. I continue to be inspired by the amazing business owners that have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of America and continue to create jobs and give back to our communities.
In Congress, I am always looking for new ways to give entrepreneurs who took the leap to start their own business the support they need to take things to the next level. That’s why I helped pass legislation in the House of Representatives this week to reauthorize and improve the Small Business Administration (SBA)’s State Trade Expansion Program (STEP).
This is a program designed to help states support small businesses that are growing and exporting their products around the world. This year, Washington state received $1.4 million in STEP funding to help businesses in our communities learn to export, participate in foreign trade missions, design international marketing materials, and so much more.
A little help can go a long way for businesses in Eastern Washington working hard to expand their operation and create new opportunities for themselves and their employees, so I’m grateful to my colleagues for coming together to get this bill passed.
