Washington, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) joined Fox News’ John Roberts and Jacqui Heinrich to discuss the crisis facing parents as they struggle to find baby formula at stores amid nationwide shortages. Rodgers called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to do its part to ensure a safe and reliable supply of baby formula is available for parents.

A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH
“This is devastating. It’s a matter of life and death. It’s very frustrating for moms all across the country when you go to the grocery store and the shelves are barren.

“It is a desperate situation and then to think you might have to drive somewhere with record high gas prices.

“I was at the grocery store over the weekend and I checked for baby formula. The shelf was bare.”

RAISING THE ALARM
“We have been raising the alarm for months, [urging] the FDA to figure out what is going on. Why are we facing this baby formula shortage?

“Why is the FDA not taking action? Why isn’t the FDA figuring out where we can manufacture more in the United States of America?

“We have suppliers that would be ready to step up. We could import safely from other countries, yet today Americans are facing empty shelves.

“We have been sounding the alarm for months. Why has this happened? How long is it going to take? And what is the plan?”

DID BIDEN ADMINISTRATION ACT QUICKLY ENOUGH?
“This is where Congress must do the oversight. We must do our jobs as the elected representatives of the people to get these answers as to why this happened, why it’s taken so long, and what the plan is from the FDA.

“They are the ones that make sure formula is safe. They’ve shut down a plant but they haven’t answered the question as to what happened and how are we going to make sure we get formula to families.”
