H.R. 1116 TAILOR Act of 2017 Yes Community banks provide access to capital for many small businesses, entrepreneurs, farmers, and aspiring homeowners here in Eastern Washington. Currently in the U.S., one community bank closes every day. This bill provides significant relief to community financial institutions that have been negatively impacted by one-size-fits all financial regulations aimed at big banks, ensuring the rule will return to those it was intended to apply to.

H.R. 4545 Financial Institutions Examination Fairness and Reform Act Yes Currently, federal law mandates a specific process to appeal regulatory decisions for financial institutions. This process is both ambiguous and secretive, meaning banks here in Eastern Washington, especially our small, community-owned banks, struggle to navigate the difficult process. This bill will create a more transparent, independent examination process so small banks can compete.

H.R. 4263 Regulation A+ Improvement Act of 2017 Yes Regulation A+ is a way for small business startups, like those here in Eastern Washington, to raise capital without adhering to the burdensome compliance guidelines meant for large companies. This bill will allow smaller companies to raise money from a wider range of the investing public, which gives them the flexibility they need to expand, create jobs, and grow our local economy.

SUSPENSION BILLS

**A suspension bill is a bill passed by the House through suspending the rules to move quickly, circumventing the House Rules Committee. Suspension bills are typically less controversial pieces of legislation, and as the rules are being suspended, they require a higher threshold, two-thirds of those voting in the House, to pass. Additionally, these bills are often passed by a voice vote, without a formal roll call vote.

H.R. 4909 STOP School Violence Act of 2018 Yes Earlier this month, I hosted a call with local superintendents, county sheriffs, and school officials to hear from them on how we keep our children safe at schools in the wake of recent school shootings. The number one thing I heard was the need for more resources, especially in our rural communities. This bill will provide more resources to schools all across the country so they can take steps to keep kids here in Eastern Washington safe.

H.R. 5247 Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act of 2018 Yes Sadly, some terminally ill patients who are fighting for their lives do not have the ability to try investigational drugs or medical treatments. This legislation, commonly known as “The Right to Try,” will help Eastern Washingtonians with life-threatening illnesses  gain access to alternative treatments after they have exhausted all other options. This legislation is already law in 38 states, including Washington where it pass unanimously.
