Washington, D.C. (March 19, 2021) – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs announced a review of the Cerner electronic health record (EHR) system:

“I am encouraged to see Secretary McDonough respond swiftly to my calls for review of the broken electronic health record system that has caused new stress on veterans and VA staff in Eastern Washington,” said Rodgers. “This decision was the right one, and I’m hopeful we can work together towards our common goal of improving the lives of our veterans.”

VA Secretary Denis McDonough’s announcement comes just days after Cathy sent a letter urging him to review the EHR system at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane.

You can read Cathy’s letter here.

NOTE: In recent months, Cathy has heard an increasing number of complaints and pleas for help coming into her Spokane and Colville offices. They typically concern the same issues: prescriptions, the new patient portal, and training. There are numerous reports of veterans not receiving their prescriptions when needed or receiving the wrong prescriptions. Other reports detail prescriptions being delayed, which in one case caused a veteran to suffer withdrawal.
