H.R. 6395 | William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 | NO | While I’m supportive of providing for our national defense, a pay raise for our troops, and many other provisions, this bill contained a number of items which would hurt America’s ability to defend itself. These provisions would add prohibitive requirements on US Customs and Border Protection, reduce the President’s authority to activate the National Guard, and reduce our number of B-1 Bombers. It would also eliminate the Pentagon’s Chief Management Officer, a position that was created only 2 years ago to identify waste and redundancies at the Pentagon. I look forward to reading the final version of this legislation when negotiations between the House and Senate conclude. |

PASSED |
H.R. 2486 | Chu Amendment to Senate Amendment to H.R. 2486 – NO BAN Act | NO | This bill would limit the President’s ability to restrict immigration. As Commander in Chief, the President has a responsibility to temporarily restrict immigration in support of our national security. |

PASSED |
H.R. 2486 | Jayapal Amendment to Senate Amendment to H.R. 2486 – Access to Counsel Act of 2020 | NO | This partisan bill would only increase the strain on our already fractured and broken immigration system. By requiring each illegal immigrant, non-citizens of the United States, be provided both a public defender and advocate organization, this legislation dramatically increases costs, slows adjudication, and incentivizes illegal crossings. |

PASSED |
H.R. 1957 | Senate Amendment – Great American Outdoors Act | YES | Provides for deferred maintenance to national parks that have been put off over the years and permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. |

PASSED |
H.R. 7608 | State, Foreign Operations, Agriculture, Rural Development, Interior, Environment, Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act, 2021 | NO | This legislation would roll back pro-life policy and provide millions in US dollars to fund coercive abortions abroad for the United Nations Population Fund, contains no money for protecting our southern border, and fails to hold the WHO accountable for their participation in Chinese Communist Party’s coverup of the coronavirus. This legislation takes advantage of the coronavirus crisis by classifying unneeded and unrelated spending as “emergency spending”. |
SUSPENSION BILLS
**A suspension bill is a bill passed by the House through suspending the rules to move quickly, circumventing the House Rules Committee. Suspension bills are typically less controversial pieces of legislation, and as the rules are being suspended, they require a higher threshold, two-thirds of those voting in the House, to pass. Additionally, these bills are often passed by a voice vote, without a formal roll call vote.

PASSED |
H.R. 7573 | Removing Statues from the Capitol | YES | This legislation removes statues of individuals who voluntarily served in the Confederate States of America from display in the Capitol, and replaces the bust of Roger Brooke Taney in the Old Supreme Court Chamber with a bust of Thurgood Marshall. This makes sure we honor the real heroes of our country and those who stayed loyal and fought for it. |
