H.R. 7120  George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020  NO George Floyd’s death was shocking and highlights the importance of ensuring justice for all — no matter race, creed, or religion. The rule of law depends on the fairness of our legal system. That’s why I helped introduce the JUSTICE Act which would reform our nation’s police and work to rebuild trust that has been broken. Unfortunately, this legislation includes provisions that incentivize frivolous lawsuits against law enforcement, which the President has indicated is a non-starter. You can read my full statement on the JUSTICE Act by clicking here.

H.R. 51  Washington, D.C. Admission Act  NO The purpose of hosting the federal government in Washington, D.C. is to remove an undue influence by a host state. D.C. statehood would grant the state unfair influence over federal decisions. Roads, utilities, policing, and other locally controlled resources could be manipulated to influence federal programs and policymakers.

Veto Message to Accompany H.J.Res. 76 Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Education relating to “Borrower Defense Institutional Accountability”  NO The “Borrower Defense Institutional Accountability” rule from the Department of Education would revise the borrower defense rule to give student borrowers a reasonable chance to file for and receive loan forgiveness when colleges and universities defraud them or engage in illegal conduct. It also protects taxpayers by ensuring loans are repaid whenever possible.
