Bill Passed to Advance the Abraham Accords
As you know, supporting our ally Israel has always been a top priority of mine. It’s why I serve as co-chair of the Abraham Accords Caucus and why I’m constantly on the lookout for new ways to promote and support peace in the region.
Today, the House of Representatives continued its pursuit of that goal by passing the Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords Act. This legislation I cosponsored would create a brand new position at the State Department dedicated to strengthening and expanding the Abraham Accords.
This person – or Special Envoy – would be appointed by the President of the United States, confirmed by the Senate, and required to report back to Congress on the progress being made to establish ties and expand relationships between Israel and Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East.
Building on the progress we’ve made with the Abraham Accords is important work that requires a lot of time and dedication. This legislation sends a strong message to Israel and our allies that the United States stands firmly behind them – no matter how difficult the road ahead may be – and that we are taking the necessary steps to achieve peace in the Middle East. I’m excited about the new opportunities that will be made possible by this bill, and I will be sure to keep you updated on its progress.
