Border Security is National Security
Since Joe Biden took office, our southern border has seen more than 6.4 million illegal crossings. The problem has gotten so bad that even liberal cities like New York and Chicago – who once celebrated their status as ‘sanctuary cities’ – have changed their tune and are telling people not to come.
Unfortunately, President Biden’s solution is to use our national parks to house migrants. In other words, instead of doing something – anything – about the record number of illegal immigrants and deadly illicit drugs pouring into the United States, the president wants to turn our national parks into tent cities.
This is completely backwards and misses the point. That’s why I joined my colleagues in the House to pass legislation called the “Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act” (H.R. 5283), which would stop this plan in its tracks.
Making sure not a single dime of taxpayer money goes to housing illegal immigrants on national park land is a good start, but it’s long past time we secure the border once and for all. We must put an end to the policies that are making communities across the country less safe by sending the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) to the president’s desk.
These common-sense policies are critical to turning the tide on this crisis, but unfortunately, the Senate is dragging its feet. We need to stop playing politics with the security of our nation and act right now before things get any worse.
