Securing America’s Nuclear Future

The American nuclear fleet is one of the greatest keys we have to unlock a clean energy future for all. Unfortunately, the U.S. nuclear industry has come dangerously close to handing that key over to Russia, who currently supplies 20% of the enriched uranium we need to run our reactors.

Not only is this a significant threat to our national security, but reports have shown that revenue from American uranium purchases is flowing straight into Putin’s war in Ukraine and strengthening his energy partnership with China.

The good news is the House took the first step toward securing America’s nuclear energy future by passing my bill called the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act (H.R. 1042) to ban all imports of enriched uranium produced in Russia.

Restoring American nuclear leadership means working with our allies – not nefarious countries like Russia – to secure fuel, develop new technology, and pave the way toward a secure and reliable energy future. This was an important step, but it’s just the beginning. I will keep fighting to unleash reliable, affordable energy to power our way of life and keep the lights on.
