Strengthening Election Integrity
Free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy, but they only work if we all trust them. Unfortunately, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Americans across the country saw their voting procedures change overnight, causing some to lose trust in the electoral process.
This is a serious issue, and we need to address it. The only way to promote confidence in our elections is to make sure people’s voices are heard through their elected representatives, and that starts with recognizing potential flaws in our voting system and working together to strengthen our election integrity moving forward.
That’s why I helped introduce the American Confidence in Elections (ACE) Act to increase accountability in the election process by:
- Empowering states to implement voter ID requirements
- Updating and improving the accuracy of voter rolls
- Establishing standards for how the U.S. Postal Service handles mail-in votes
- Helping states strengthen their own voting processes
- Requiring reports on any foreign threats to our elections
The ACE Act provides common sense solutions that we should all be able to rally behind as Americans. Because every American – Republican, Democrat, and Independent – deserves to know that their vote is counted when they go to the polling place or mail in their ballot.
