Taking Action to Back the Blue
National Police Week is an opportunity for us to say THANK YOU to the men and women who selflessly protect and serve our communities in Eastern Washington. We also remember those who were tragically killed in the line of duty. They are heroes who deserve our support today and every day.
That’s why I was proud to take action in the House of Representatives this week to pass legislation to back the blue, including:
- A resolution I helped lead that expresses support for local law enforcement officers and condemns efforts to defund local law enforcement agencies.
- A resolution condemning violence against police officers and expressing condolences and solemn appreciation to the loved ones of each law enforcement officer who has made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
- The Police Our Border Act (H.R. 8146) and an additional resolution to better understand and condemn President Biden’s border crisis and the tremendous burdens law enforcement officers face as a result of it.
- H.R. 7343 to detain and deport illegal immigrants who commit assault against a law enforcement officer.
- H.R. 7581 to improve the safety and wellness of our law enforcement officers.
- The Recruit and Retain Act (S. 546) to help make sure law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to hire police officers and keep communities safe.
- H.R. 354 to make it easier for qualified police officers to conceal carry their firearm in public spaces for use in emergency situations.
These bills are a great start, but there’s still more work to be done. Our nation is truly blessed to have the finest individuals put on the uniform to keep us safe. To each one of you who wear the badge: I will always stand with you and do everything I can to serve you. May God bless you and keep you safe as you protect and serve.
