For months, I have been fighting to hold the Biden administration accountable for the unacceptable backlog of records requests at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). It’s ridiculous that veterans in our community are being denied access to care or benefits because they are waiting on a piece of paper from the United States government.
Last night, the House of Representatives took action to right this undeniable wrong by passing the Access for Veterans to Records Act. This legislation will require the NPRC to modernize its information technology and shore up its workforce to ensure records processing is just a click away.
This is a step in the right direction, but we have a long way to go. I will fight tooth and nail to make sure this bill gets signed into law, and in the meantime, I will keep the pressure on the Biden administration to ensure every veteran in our community and across the United States has access to their records without another second of bureaucratic delay.
