Letter from Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers
Recognizing Pend Oreille County’s Centennial Celebration
(Jun. 1, 2011)
Thank you for attending the Pend Oreille County Centennial Celebration today.
While I wish I could be there with you in-person, please know that I’m thinking of you and your wonderful community on this special day.
Pend Oreille is the youngest County in Washington – the last County created in the State. And in the past hundred years, it has kept its youthful, pioneer spirit – serving as a magnet for those who enjoy nature and make a living through nature’s industries – including mining, logging, and tourism.
To be sure, there are many parts of Washington which combine natural beauty with the beautiful character of its citizens. But Pend Oreille’s truly unique combination makes it – without a doubt – a “great place to live, work, and play.”
And so today, as we “honor the past” and “look to the future,” we reflect on those great citizens who founded Pend Oreille County and have helped sustain it for exactly 100 years. We also look ahead to the next 100 years with hope and confidence that the best days are still to come.
Today, I want to thank and congratulate all of the organizers, volunteers, and residents for helping to mark this important milestone. Because of you, the future of Pend Oreille County is in good hands.
Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers
