Leading To Honor Our Veterans
Since 2005, Honor Flights have helped more than 245,000 veterans from all across the country visit our nation’s capital – many for the first time. In 2017, I had the privilege of seeing off a group of Eastern Washington veterans from Spokane International Airport, and it was an experience I will never forget.
There was nothing quite like seeing the smiles on the faces of veterans about to embark on a journey to see the very war memorials dedicated to their service to our country. Traditionally, a police escort has been provided to help the group on the flight travel from the airport to the memorials and back, as you can imagine navigating DC traffic is difficult. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has changed a long-standing policy to allow these escorts. I think this policy change is completely unacceptable.
That’s why I’ve joined my colleagues in urging the Biden administration to resume car escort services for veterans participating in an Honor Flight. I know how special this trip is for veterans in our community, which is why I am committed to making sure it is an experience they will never forget.
