McMorris Rodgers Calls for Continued Support of Israel, Demands Iran Be Held Accountable
Introduces Legislation to Permanently Freeze $6 Billion in Iranian Funds
Washington, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) this week joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in taking additional actions to support Israel in their war against Hamas terrorists.
On Monday, Cathy joined 112 of her colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden expressing her support for ensuring Israel has every resource it needs to defeat radical terror. In the bipartisan letter, the lawmakers wrote, “Congress will support additional measures to replenish and release stockpiles of American ammunition stored in Israel to use during this national emergency, including offensive munitions key to assuring Israel’s success. It is essential to America’s national security.”
They continued, “Iran must be held fully accountable for its continued role in funding Hamas and Islamic terror. We urge the Administration to take all necessary steps to cut off Iranian funding sources. This includes maximum enforcement of all U.S. sanctions.”

Additionally, Cathy and 31 of her colleagues urged the Department of Defense to transfer two additional Iron Dome air defense systems to Israel. In part, the lawmakers wrote: “It is essential that the two Iron Dome systems be transferred to Israel along with the equipment and munitions that the Department of Defense has already said it will provide as soon as possible. These systems, defensive in nature, will protect innocent women, children, and the elderly as Israel defends itself against Hamas’ terrorist attacks that are being supported by Hezbollah.”

Finally, Cathy joined House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) in introducing the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act. This legislation would permanently freeze the $6 billion of Iranian funds released as part of the Biden administration’s 2023 hostage deal.
“Israel and the United States cannot afford to let Iran – the largest state sponsor of terror – get their hands on a single penny of the $6 billion released by the Biden administration,” said Rodgers. “Whether directly or not, this money will undoubtedly make it easier for Iran to support Hamas as they wage war on our closest ally in the Middle East. Permanently freezing these assets is a necessary step that must be taken immediately.”
BACKGROUND: The Iranian regime provides significant financial and material support to Hamas, as well as other terrorist organizations. By imposing immediate, mandatory sanctions on foreign financial institutions that facilitate the transfer of the restricted Iranian funds covered under the 2023 hostage deal, the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act would ensure the $6 billion remain permanently off-limits to the Iranian regime.
