(Washington, DC) — Congresswoman Cathy McMorris today was named by Speaker Hastert to be part of the House Republican High-Tech Working Group led by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA). The group announced its new Members and outlined its priorities for the 109th Congress.

“One of my goals in Congress is to promote economic growth, which includes supporting the cutting edge work of high-tech companies,” said McMorris. “It is important to support these companies by creating policies that promote economic growth, remove barriers to innovation, and improve our quality of life.”

The 5th district has a growing technology base focused on the defense industry and healthcare. Technology is a key driver in the region’s economy, helping create jobs and enabling people to work smarter and more efficiently. In 2004, close to $100 million was invested in regional technology companies.

“Technology is playing a vital role in both our national security and our economic security. My top priorities include encouraging broadband development and deployment, making the R&D tax credit permanent, keeping the Internet free of new taxes and regulations, and supporting efforts to use technology to improve our health care system.”
