It’s no secret that our country has a budgeting problem. We spend more than we earn, and our national debt is soaring to a dangerous level as a result. Congress has a responsibility to the American people to exercise its constitutional ‘power of the purse,’ so we don’t saddle our children and grandchildren with a debt they can never repay.

That’s why I helped pass the Fiscal State of the Nation Resolution, so we can bring more transparency to how federal spending impacts the security of our nation.  This resolution will ensure members of Congress have access to timely, accurate, and nonpartisan economic data they can use to make better decisions to drive our economy to new heights.

We have a long way to go to get our fiscal house in order, but this bill is an important step towards spending taxpayer dollars in the most thoughtful and effective way possible. Congress must be responsible with your hard-earned tax dollars.
