(Washington, D.C.) Congresswoman Cathy McMorris (WA-05) today announced that Senator Larry Craig, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Veteran’s Affairs Committee, has accepted her invitation to accompany the Congresswoman on a tour of the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Walla Walla on Monday, March 20th.
“One of my top priorities is to provide access to quality, affordable health care,” said McMorris. “We made a promise to our veterans that they would be taken care of and we must follow through with that commitment by ensuring that they have access to the best health care possible. The Walla Walla VA Medical Center serves veterans from Washington, Idaho and Oregon and I am pleased that Senator Craig has agreed to accompany me on this trip so he can get a firsthand look at the current facility and the needs of our region’s veterans.”
“Many veterans from Idaho use the Walla Walla facility each year, so as both a senator from Idaho and chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs, I have a unique interest in seeing the facility in action. I look forward to meeting the staff and the veterans there,” Craig said.
The Jonathan M. Wainwright Medical Center serves over 64, 000 veterans in 12 counties in Southeastern Washington, Northeastern Oregon and Central Idaho. McMorris has taken numerous steps to ensure that veterans continue to receive the care they deserve: she has rallied our Northwest Congressional delegation, toured the VA facility in Walla Walla, and held meetings with the CARES Commission and Local Advisory Panel. This spring, Veterans Affairs Secretary James Nicholson will also be touring the Wainwright Medical Center, per McMorris’ invitation.
